Eddie was among the top money winners in many major rodeos including: Calgary and Winnipeg, Canada and Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming; Chicago, Illinois; New York City, New York; and Denver, Colorado in the United States.Tragedy struck the "Wizard of the Lariat" before 10,000 fans! Eddie Burgess lost his life while roping a steer at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. "Rex" his favorite roping horse accidentally fell on him after losing his footing while stopping a big steer!
