COMMENTS: Minnesota Swimmer
  • "Gawboy started working out again in February, 1955. On April 1, 1955, he swam his first race in over two years – the 220 yard breast (underwater breast allowed) at the Indoor National AAU’s at Yale University. T’was unbelievable, but Bob cracked the American Record in the prelims, and in the finals won the gold medal with a World Record Time of 2:38.0 (at that time short course world records were recognized). Remarkable, as he had not swam a race for over two years, he had just undergone surgery, and he had been in training for less than three months."
